Touring riders are in need of torque more than they are of peak horsepower. In racing applications, lots of peak horsepower will result in a high top speed, and generally this happens at a very high rpm. Touring, however, is all about sustained cruising at freeway speeds and the ability to pass in traffic or to pull a trailer up a mountain road. So it is more important for touring engines to make ample torque at a reasonable rpm.- For a touring application, the “most powerful” is not always the best
- Requirements for a performance touring engine include the same concerns as a typical high performance street engine, but the priorities are different
